Mika, the short name is the username of the user - it's a short word used to uniquely identify the user. It has a limited set of characters allowed, baically a-z, 0-9 and _ or -. (i.e. no spaces or non-latin characters). This is entered at user creation time, see the User Accounts dialog (click unlock then +).
It doesn't seem appropriate to show the username as it's a technical detail that normal users never see. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/827713 Title: Handles long names poorly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/827713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
