When using Wine on an AMD64 system running 32-bit Ubuntu Feisty (kernel
2.6.20-15-386), the system will sometimes completely hardlock
nondeterministically. It was originally thought that graphical load
produced this bug, but it recently occurred while the machine was
sitting at the GDM login prompt.
When this hardlock occurs, the system does not respond to Alt-
SysRq-[anything], none of the {Num|Scroll|Caps}Lock keys respond, the
system does not respond to network requests of any kind ("No route to
host" from anybody who attempts to ping/ssh/anything), and any sound
that was playing enters an infinite loop of whatever duration the most
recent chunk of sound was, up to about half a second of endlessly
repeating sound. Oddly enough, the system's internal temperature at this
point is not above ambient by more than ten degrees, and the fans on the
processor and video card are spinning perfectly well. The RAM passed 24h
of memtest in this configuration under a month ago, and more extensive
testing can be done if it is suspect.
