Hi Danny,
Thank you for your report. I can confirm this on both Debian Etch and
Ubuntu Feisty.
The data itself is correct. It reflects the "Cached" information from
/proc/meminfo. But since top prepends that line with "Swap:", one would
guess that's swap related, where it isn't.
On the other hand, "free" labels the information correctly:
mds023922:~# free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1028496 840760 187736 0 85436 225432
-/+ buffers/cache: 529892 498604
Swap: 979924 0 979924
Possible fix: move the "cached" information to the "Mem:" line.
