Public bug reported:

Dear all

When I plug my external HDD drive to the computer (computer is on, with
Ubuntu loaded), plugging the HDD USB cable does nothing (apparently)

My external USB 2.0 HDD is only recognized:

1. At boot time, if the external HDD is ALREADY attached

2. Switching OFF/ON the HDD. When I switch off/on (I mean AC power) the
HDD, Gnome instantly opens a folder and shows disk content

In addition, if I select "Eject" in the contextual menu (right click)
over the disk icon (in the desktop) the whole device turns off ... BUT
then it turns on again in a while, so it's hard to dettach it safely
(btw, the same drive works fine under windows)

Unlike my external HDD drive, USB flash drives (memory) do work fine.

My computer is a Toshiba U200-192 laptop running Ubuntu Feisty (7.04)

The HDD is an external Iomega 320MB, formatted using FAT32 (Iomge

should I provide to better report this (pls let me know)
