Attached is serial console log of a failed boot from a virtual machine.
I've found it easy to reproduce the race in a kvm virtual machine using
the daily oneiric iso.  Results match what I encounter on real hardware:

Install oneiric, using standard guided partition table.
Attach a second storage dev
pvcreate /dev/sdb
vgcreate test-vg /dev/sdb
lvcreate -L 100M -n test-lv test-vg

Reboot.  Seems to hit ~1/5 boots.
