Public bug reported:
This is a problem with the latest version of VLC (version 1.1.11) in
Ubuntu 11.10 Beta.
I started playing an MP4 version of Sintel to test out VLC and after
about 1 minute the whole system locks up. After a few seconds it comes
back and then locks up again a while later. I am running ubuntu in a
virtual machine so I don't know whether this makes any difference.
I have checked a number of system logs but nothing jumped out at me.
VLC in Ubuntu 11.04 had a memory leak which was resolved, I am not sure
whether this issue is related to that memory leak or whether it is
separate issue.
I should also note that this only appears to have been a problem on my
test install after installing some updates to VLC on 05 September.
