I also came across this problem with Ubuntu 11.04 (amd64) and found a solution
here:

I followed the advice there and installed kernel 2.6.39-020639rc4 from
kernel-ppa at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39-rc4-natty/
This solved the problem.
However, it would be nice if the fix would be packported to an
"official" kernel for natty.
