It seems to be the + opposite of bug 745996! Easy to reproduce: Boot a oneric 32-bit live CD. Terminal windows are fine. The graphical window shows the top menubar, and left side seems to be populated. If you move the mouse over what appear to be icon positions (just see 2 inward pointing triangles) their tool tips appear. The icons themselves don't appear. If for instance you launch the dasher, all the icons and the dasher window are fine. Say you run firefox from that dasher window, the firefox menu options will all appear on the top menubar - you can "open new window", but no window appears. Nothing appears in the large main white region (desktop?) framed by the icon list on the left margin and the menubar at the top. The PC has a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (rev. 0xa1) graphics card.
