For me, firefox does appear to work, as you mentioned.  Nautilus does
not work, however (I didn't think nautilus was QT, so it might be a
wider issue than you've seen).   Pressing my alt key does activate the
menus (I see all the menus, with the key letter underlined in each), but
pressing a letter does not activate that particular menu.  If I click on
a menu with the mouse, pressing the letter for a sub item of that menu
does activate that item.
