Public bug reported: I've noticed this before in the released version of 11.04 and now again in the beta-1 of oneiric that my older laptop cannot boot from the install-cd. It comes up with the language choice interface and I can select "try lubuntu without installing", but then it hangs.
The hardware is from 2002 and it runs 11.04 with the kernel from 10.10, which works reasonably well.
