Does your camera work well with other applications, like cheese or
xawtv?

If it does, I'd encourage you to ask in https://answers.launchpad.net/
or http://askubuntu.com, as getting a particular, working device to be
recognized in zoneminder is not a bug, but more of a support request.

If it doesn't, meaning that Ubuntu doesn't recognize your camera at all,
I'd recommend filing another bug about this. Hardware support bugs are
usually filed on the Linux kernel, I'd advise using this command on a
terminal:

ubuntu-bug linux

and then describing, in particular, your camera's make and model.

I'll close this bug as invalid due to the fact that the installation
problem it describes was caused by leftover files from a previous
installation, but hopefully the resources I indicate will help point you
to a suitable solution for your problem.
