This appears to be a DPMS issue on my Dell Studio 1558. I learned several ways
to get around this effect. To manually prevent the screen from blanking for 1
hour by altering X preference:
    xset dpms 0 3600 3600

OR disable DPMS:
    xset -dpms; xset s off

Now I can either add this in my .bashrc or modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf to
override the default behaviour. But it would be nice to have this option
available to users under Ubuntu power setting.
