Tim, can you have a look into this? Is it possible to get a dialog for users who have no permission to administrate printers which tells this clearly and gives the possibility to to enter a user name and a password (so that an admin can log in without needing to log out of the user's desktop), an OK or "Login" button to perform the login and a "Cancel" button which actually closes the dialog without doing anything (and does not fall into an infinite password loop). If possible one could even check the lpadmin group (or whatever group is configured for this purpose in CUPS) whether it exists and has members and if not let the dialog ask for the root password.
