Public bug reported:

In certain situations, ubiquity writes an "auto ethN" line
/etc/network/interfaces. This means that the boot up process, including
bringing up the X system by upstart, will be delayed for whatever grace
period is defined in /etc/init/failsafe.conf . This is currently 120
seconds

This seems to affect mostly (if not only) people who use either the
netinstall, or the alternate CD, while using a whired connection.

Please see bug #839595 for more information

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
