it just looks ugly in my opinion.

We don't need big buttons from the designer aspect. It's a good idea for
people that need help on the pc, who have problems moving the mouse,
etc.

But for normal people buttons with a smaller size (like in Windows, OS X
and even KDE) are more pretty.

Imagine there are a lot buttons in a window, the window is filled 33% with 
buttons then. They just could be smaller.
They are not the main element of the interface, so they just don't need to be 
that big.
