Auto connections are expected behavior, they do not mean that any auto
connection is being done, but that it was automatically created by
networkmanager for an SSID you clicked on in the applet.
If changes in the wireless network are made or if something doesn't
properly get detected (e.g. the wifi device detects WEP when it shoudl
be WPA), then it's normal for an automatic connection not to work. Once
the connection fails a few times then it might be recreated if you click
on it, depending on if there is more than just one access point with the
same name around.
It looks to me from the logs as though there is something wrong in how
the secrets are being passed or saved; either the password changes or
it's being deleted or otherwise can't be asked for by NetworkManager
when it tries to connect.
When your connection next fails, please take a copy of /var/log/syslog
before using your workaround to fix the issue and connect successfully,
then attach that copy to this bug report so we can get more information.
Thanks!
