Fixed in network-manager-gnome 0.9.0-0ubuntu2; it now switches
automatically between GtkStatusIcon and indicator icons which should
cover showing the icon in GtkStatusIcon format in this particular case,
and showing it as an indicator if you add the indicator widget to your
panel.
