xmms provides /usr/lib/libxmms.so.1
xmms-dev provides  /usr/lib/libxmms.so

but those are just pointers it seems, sorry I am not familiar with how
different .so versions are handled (need to read up on that)

$ ls libxmms* -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 103698 2007-03-28 12:31 libxmms.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root    954 2007-03-28 12:31 libxmms.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     16 2007-04-21 21:02 libxmms.so -> libxmms.so.1.3.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     16 2007-04-21 15:11 libxmms.so.1 -> libxmms.so.1.3.1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  66712 2007-03-28 12:31 libxmms.so.1.3.1
