I should also point out that bug #838968 was fixed yesterday. That
should help reduce the cases of this problem. It seems that sometimes
the installer removes just the 'iface' line, and not the 'auto' line. We
were incorrectly waiting on interfaces that could never be brought up,
because they had no definition, but did have an auto line.

Damian, did you have just 'auto ppp0' or also 'iface ppp0 ....' ? If you
only had auto ppp0, then you were affected by 838968, and should make
sure you have the latest ifupdown package.
