Two things: 1) I have the shadow now, the issue was nautilus not managing the desktop (unity draws the shadow on nautilus's window... yeah, that's not the best idea ever haha) 2) On multimonitor, I can say the shadow is only drawn on the topmost monitor, so if you have two aligned you have a long shadow accross both, otherwise it's just on the monitor at the top
