Didn't seem to make any difference. It's unclear whether the input-
device for the application should be set to 'PulseAudio Mixer' or
'[Headset plughw:1.0]'.

I suspect that Mixer is capturing the headset input .. and not passing
it on. Is there are way of disabling pulse-audio completely?

Anyway, I'll repeat this on the home machine when I'm there Monday
night.
