Brad,

Please stop working on this. It seems like a collosal waste of your
time. All that was required years ago was to change the default sound
settings to a choice less likely to cause people problems. Now the whole
thing seems irrelevant. I must say that it concerns me that people are
still working on this.

Also, I no longer use Linux and cannot run any procedures for you.
