ran apport-collect as requested. I returned the laptop in March and had the touchpad replaced. It works OK now. The functionality is sharply degraded, I suspect the vendor replaced it with an older model touch pad (multitouch is gone, the scroll areas on the right hand side are gone...) The report is the same machine, but I suspect the touch pad is different. perhaps close it as hardware?
