** Summary changed:

- Too old Gfire in repo for use
+ [FFE] Too old Gfire in repo for use, update version or remove from archive

** Description changed:

- The repo has version 0.8.3-0ubuntu1 but that version is too old for at
- least 2 first of the following reasons. Luckily they have a deb of
- version 0.9.4-2ubuntu in the downloads over at
- http://sourceforge.net/projects/gfire/files/gfire/ which worked for me.
+ the gfire plugin in the repository is does not work anymore due to protocol
changes.
+ The new upstream version 0.9.4 is reported to work.
+ So for oneiric either the version should be updated or the plugin removed
form the archive.
+ It is a leaf package just providing additional features for pidgin so the
regression potential is low.
+
+ original report:
+ The repo has version 0.8.3-0ubuntu1 but that version is too old for at least
2 first of the following reasons. Luckily they have a deb of version
0.9.4-2ubuntu in the downloads over at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gfire/files/gfire/ which worked for me.

  1) Attempts to connect but fails, without a note.
  2) Unable to fetch §xfire_games.xml§.
  3) Pidgin crashes later after failing to fetch. Note that, the crash didn't
occur each time.

If it's of any use, I have Lubuntu 1104 (Linux rauta-m1530-lubuntu
  2.6.38-11-server #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 29 19:20:32 UTC 2011 x86_64
  x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) on Pidgin/libpurple 2.10.0.
