The same here with a fresh install of Kubuntu Feisty. I changed my icons on desktop, kicker and where-ever else to start with the required profiles (Web or File, both with "Detailed List View"). That works good.
When I open a new empty tab, click on home button, then I get again "Icon View," which is not saved in any existing profiles... Fastest workaround is to duplicate an existing tab instead and click home button.
