Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-legacy
Having worked out that the nvidia have removed support for my card (RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro) from their current nvidia drivers I found the nvidia-glx-legacy. nvidia-glx-legacy (1.0.7174+2.6.15.11-3) Depends on: nvidia-kernel-common (20051028+1) ... linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-23-386 (2.6.15.11-1) ... However this did not work: FATAL: Module nvidia_legacy not found. Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module is version 1.0.7182, but this X module is version 1.0.7174. Please be sure that your kernel module and all NVIDIA driver files have the same driver version. I played around using a combination of the packages and the ones that you can download on nvidia's site. uninstalling the nvidia deb packages and then using the last TNT supported pack from Nvidia (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7182-pkg1.run) gave me these errors: (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 0) (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) No drivers available. however dmesg had reported "[17181368.680000] NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 1.0-7182 Wed Apr 19 12:56:13 PDT 2006" - without any errors I went back and installed the nvidia deb packages and then went back to the version missmatch problem. which I rectified manually having dug up the old NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-7174/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run Basically I think the X module that is provided with nvidia-glx-legacy is the wrong version for the module provided in nvidia-kernel-common (20051028+1) or Linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-23-386 (2.6.15.11-1) ... ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- kernel and X module version missmatch https://launchpad.net/bugs/57118 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
