Public bug reported:

As a daily user of virtualbox I find that unity keeps loosing tack of
virtualbox main menu. As the virtual machine cycles between full-screen,
seamless (guest windows integrated into host windows) and windowed mode
the menu item becomes corrupted. The actual menus remain but the menu
items are gone. This was not the case when not using unity global menus.
