Could you attach the log /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log after this occurs? Also
please check lightdm is still active by running:
$ ps aux | grep lightdm
** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => Medium
