For the recent security fix LightDM has to drop privileges to write the
authority file, but I guess it could be set wrong.  Alex.  Could you log
into a text terminal and check the permissions on ~/.Xauthority.  If
they're wrong fix them/delete the file then login again and see if this
fixes the problem.
