1) That's two problems then :)
    (a) I had no idea it was discouraged, despite the fact that I tend to read
documentation a lot. (When I can find it, see [Bug 57116] :)
    (b) I don't know if we have anything in the repositories that's analogue to
the Automatix thing. (Like a "common-universe" package or something.) If we do,
see point (a). If we don't, then there's our problem; it's a useful thing if
people keep using it :)

2) True. But I didn't mean just allow anyone to enter packages. I just
meant the process should be made as easy as possible. (I'm sure it can
be done :) but hey, what do I know.)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/New says "Creating new packages
suitable for Ubuntu is not an easy process." which is sort of my point.

3) Didn't know about that (though it's probably my fault now). I'll look
into it.

4) I was sure a service like that existed. But it's still not really to
use (the evidence is the many packages that I mentioned above), and it
would help to have a small team of people finding such packages, finding
out why their developers didn't add them at Ubuntu, and helping or
finding alternatives. This is rather generic, I know.

About amaroK, yes, I use gnome too, but amaroK is just too good :-) Actually,
it just occured to me to just ask them why they don't use the repositories...
