It now seems OK but am unable to use desktop effects: error message "The
composite extension is not available"
I've established that this is caused by using the restricted ATI driver which
also causes me to lose my sound card. After disabling the restricted driver
I've got sound back and am able to use desktop effects but now unable to change
desktops again.
Radeon 9800 Pro and Terratec Audigy sound card.
Summary: restricted driver on - no sound, unable to access desktop effects but
able to change desktops.
" " off - sound back, able to use desktop effects -
unable to change desktops using the cahange desktop applets.
Hope this makes sense
