Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: mplayer
Description:
Cannot play Microsoft Windows files with .avi extension in any of the
players in Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn).
Observations:
I have installed all non-free and Windows codecs using Automatix2. All
the following media players are available in my system: Kaffeine,
KMPlayer, Totem, VLC Media player and RealPlayer.
I can play the following audio files: ogg, mp3
I can also play DVDs and VCDs with audo and video.
Problem:
However, when I play .avi files using any of the above players, I get
only the sound from the file. I do not see the video output.
Possible Causes:
All of these players use "mplayer" as the backend program in my Feisty
(I guess). So, I guess, it is a problem with my mplayer. I do not know
how to reconfigure all these players to use another backend, such as
xine.
Additional observations:
I never faced this issue in Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. After I have moved to
Kubuntu Feisty 7.04, I face this problem. It may be that it is a new
bug.
Kernel version (uname -a):
Linux lramesh-laptop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC
2007 i686 GNU/Linux
** Affects: mplayer (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
