tomashnyk, I no longer have the problem, fixed by completely re-writing the smb.conf manually. I believe the problem falls with the GUI configurures - so as I am using kubuntu - the samba configurator of kcontrol doesn't seem to work correctly anymore which it did work in edgy... to a point.
