How much was this tested with different applications and a variety of
test images? Image decoding libraries are notoriously prone to buffer
overflows and the like, so this should also get a proper security review
first. Are there some discussions to integrate the faster decoding
upstream, to not permanently live with two different libraries? Once
it's in the archive I feel that there will be pressure to switch to it
by default, and that's what I'd like to avoid.
