Hi,
As of lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.0.0-0ubuntu1, it is possible to ship a
custom config file for the gtk greeter and use it as default with
update-alternatives.
I'd like to add that feature to xubuntu-default-settings (see attached
debdiff).
Sorry, I know it's late, but the needed bits in lightdm only landed in
oneiric a few hours ago (even if we had to push several weeks to get
something usable to derivative in lightdm).

(of course it builds fine, and I tested it on a clean vm, and it works
fine, modulo a bug in lightdm-gtk-greeter maintainer scripts I'm going
to report after that).
