On the kde desktop (kdesktop) network shares (NFS or SMB) mounted in
fstab are always shown. This should be configurable through the kcontrol
module "Behaviour" (accessable through right click on the desktop >
Configure Desktop > Behaviour > Device icons). However it seems to be
independent of the kde settings, always being displayed
