Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vnc-common

Hi,

I am running Feisty. I enabled VNC on my laptop so that I can view its
screen when I am at a school computer, I used the
System->Preferences->Remote Desktop tool and enabled VNC. I could
connect from school to my laptop with no problem, however when returning
home, with no connection active to my laptop, I found that just having
the VNC server running in background with no connections to it, it makes
my desktop slow. I especially noticed that switching tabs in Firefox
could take 2 seconds without an exception. Not sure about other apps,
from graphical apps I use mostly Firefox, so that's what I noticed. When
I turned VNC off, the problem was immediately solved, Firefox started to
be responsive again (I think I had to log out and log in at least). So,
now I don't use VNC, because while it makes it possible to view remotely
my desktop, it makes my desktop nearly unusable when I am working with
it locally.

Happens on Feisty x86, graphics card ATI Mobility X1450, using fglrx
driver installed by restricted drivers manager (8.34).

** Affects: vnc (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
