I cannot confirm this issue though I use Gnome not KDE.
Please check that firefox option network.protocol-
handler.external.mailto is set to "true" (through link about:config). If
so, check which is the default mail handler for KDE (I don't use KDE,
but checking it at Gnome is through gconf-editor's path
"/desktop/gnome/applications/url-handlers/mailto")
