Please let us know if that information is still current, and please provide any information **in this bug** that you provided in that question and believe is relevant to this bug. Your bug report should itself be as complete and self-contained as possible. Please also clarify here whether or not you are able to access any files on any CD's or DVD's at all--from your question, it appears that this problem may be related to accessing media in your optical drive, and not specific to installing Ubuntu or Ubuntu packages. Please also let us know if this problem occurs when you use the Software Center rather than Synaptic.
