Using the kde 4.3 rc2 packages on current karmic, I discovered that the
bug report tool changed. It seems to be designed for reporting crashes
with backtrace attached. However, in my situation it turned out to be
very impractical:
I found a small bug in konqueror and wanted to report it, so selected "report
bug". Then the system tried to generate a backtrace and a fully automated bug
report. No useful information could be collected since there was no crash or
anything. Still, in the generated bug report it said "crash" which i guess will
only lead to confusion or just get ignored. Moreover, I wasn't taken to
bugs.kde, which was the really useful aspect of the bug reporting system
before: All the relevant package data were already filled into the form and the
reporter wasn't forced to spend so much time on writing the report. But with
the new tool, I was forced to go to kde.bugs "manually", i.e. fill in all the
versions, package numbers etc before I could write my report.
So in summary, the old system was much better for reporting small bugs (which
are the majority), and i would like to see it back -
maybe as an option.
