It's not at all clear from this report what the problem is that you're
describing.

Do you mean that sometimes it finds the network configuration and
sometimes it doesn't?
Is this a new installation or an upgrade? Did you manually configure
your network in /etc/network/interfaces?
When it "doesn't boot at all", where does it stop?

What keys do you press?

Can you take a screenshot of this? There's no reason for it to be
stopping everything on startup unless you've done something like
pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.
You say in the bug title that this also happens in recovery mode. Do
you see the recovery mode menu or not? Recovery mode does not configure
the network before it displays the menu.

That sounds like a bug that's been fixed subsequent to beta2. Can you
test with a recent 11.10 daily image instead?

after installing GDM, reebooted computer and plymouth was stuck on
"Waiting For Network Configuration" screen and wouldn't boot into
