Thanks for speedy reaction. I just upgraded from 9. and successfully got to 10.04 But when trying to go to 10.10 I experienced this problem. I actually wanted to upgrade to 11.04 but apparently first had to upgrade to 10.10.
I tried "dpkg -l apt-cacher-ng" from the terminal but then got different problems. I decided now to rather do a fresh clean install of 11.04. since I do not have any need to preserve old settings or data.
