It seems your sound settings were incorrect when you did the test.
Please retry after having done the following:
1) Click the speaker icon (top right corner of screen) and select "Sound
Settings..."
2) Go to the input tab and make sure the "Input volume" is turned up, "Mute" is
unchecked and that "Connector" is set to "Internal Mic".
