*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 57153 *** Hi There
I can confirm this. I am using a Dell Inspiron 9100, having an ATI Radeon 9700 video chipset. After having upgraded xserver-xorg-core using the standard update manager and rebooting, I received the exact same error as above. I tried re-configuring using the following: - sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-org - X -configure .. but neither worked. The only way I could get my windowing manager up and running again was to rollback to the previous version. I would suggest that this is a crytical bug, specifically since this update is available via the standard update manager. It would be a terrible setback for Ubuntu having workstations in corporate environments suddenly breaking for apparently no reason at all.
