Public bug reported: The builtin help-page says: 'g' or '/' may be pressed for searching. While the search-while-typing is a nice feature, it doesn't help you much, because you can't trigger any action on the match. Except one: The one Triggered by 'return'. With Files, this means, they get played immediately (no enqueing), with directories, that means entering them. The problem is, the marker, which in search mode gets set to the matches, returns to where it was before entering of the search mode if you cancel the search by hitting ESC or C-c.
