I've found a method for reproduce the default.

1) Configure kmail :
In Settings,Appearence,Layout:
Select the "show the message preview pan below the message list" option
Select the "Show only for non-plaintext messages" option
Select the "Above the message pane" option

2) Click on a message with composite structure (non plain text)
3) Drag the horizontal split bar (between message and the Typemime treeview) at
botom
4) Clic on a other message text plain only.
here, the message view is not visible, and if even if you double clic on the
message, the message view is empty.

That is very troubling for the user. To restore the view, the user must
clic on a non text plain message to see again the split bar.
