After reporting this bug (actually a duplicate of it) I tried again and
it's now running smoothly, so it may be related to incorrect setting of
new repositories while working on the update.

I include the current /etc/apt/sources.list below (in my case a machine
already upgraded from 10.10 - NB comments not in english are in
galician, automatically added by update-manager in my locale, if you
have trouble understanding try google translate or any other translation
tool):
