Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

steps to reproduce this bug:
1. use a machine with an onboard sound chipset that loads snd-hda-intel such
as the "realtek hd audio" (ALC883)
2. load firefox with flashplugin-nonfree and navigate to a site with flash
videos that play audio, almost anything on google video or youtube
3. load a video, let it play for a few seconds, then navigate away from the
page while the video is playing, or close the browser tab while the video is
still playing. Around 20% of the time firefox will freeze and have to be
terminated.

Testing indicates this is a sound-related problem for the following reasons:
several other people with the same problem reported having sound chipsets that
use the same drivers.
this problem is not limited to firefox, it can also be reproduced in konqueror.
I was able to stop the freezing by disabling onboard sound in the bios, another
user reported stopping the problem by switching to different sound card

the problem has been discussed in the following bug report, with sound-specific
discussion starting on 2007-05-10
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/104470

also one user reported they could avoid the problem by reverting to the
pre-feisty kernel 2.6.15-27
