Roger, this is a very unusual error:
update-alternatives: error: /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/nmblookup
corrupt: invalid status
This would only occur if that file has some strange data in it.
I would suggest doing this after a backup of your system completes:
sudo apt-get remove samba
sudo apt-get install samba
** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
