The problem is strange, i conducted a little investigation.
That happened on my work, on work computer. Now is a weekend and exact
information would be available on Monday. But the same problem seems to be on
my home notebook. Here dpkg (1.16.1~natty+1) also not know what is
foreign-architecture, and i can't find that option in man page for dpkg,
although i find with google man page on Debian for dpkg (for 1.16 version), and
that man page includes --foreign-architecture option. Ubuntu living on my work
computer without reinstalls since 9.04. I used only upgrades. On my laptop, i
don't rememder, but i installed the first ubuntu release with GRUB2, and, also
only upgrades.
I used only these repos: pitti for PostgreSQL, ondrej for Redmine, wine,
muCommander, third party developers, Canonical partners. Now i see that dpkg
was from ondrej-redmine repository.
apt-cache output on my notebook:
dpkg:
Установлен: 1.16.1~natty+1
Кандидат: 1.16.1~natty+1
Таблица версий:
*** 1.16.1~natty+1 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ondrej/redmine/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1.16.0~ubuntu7.1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main amd64 Packages
1.16.0~ubuntu7 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
I'll try to disable that repo, and reinstall dpkg.
